About Our Car Glass Shop Directory
Car glass plays an important safety function for car passengers. Car glass is typically made of tempered glass which is a special type of processed glass that makes it five times stronger than standard glass. In addition car glass is made so that when broken, the glass breaks up into small granules rather than sharp shards. Car glass is made through a tempering process that involves heating the glass at extreme temperatures, followed by rapid cooling. The front auto glass in a car is made of a different type of tempered glass called laminated safety glass. This type of car glass is an upgrade on the regular tempered glass in that it is both laminated and tempered. The lamination binds two outer layers of tempered glass with an interior thin layer of polyvinyl butrayl. This process further strengthens the front auto glass preventing the glass from shattering upon extensive impact. The layer of polyvinyl butrayl keeps the glass in tact even when broken.
